General description

Flats are specifically designed for cargo that is heavy, has excess height and/or excess width. They are open on the sides and on the top for this purpose.

  • Strong floor structure with fixed or collapsible front ends.
  • 'Collapsible flats' have collapsible end walls, allowing several flats to be stacked in the footprint of a single container. This provides significant cost savings when transporting or storing empty containers.
  • 'Flush folding flats' are equipped with end walls that sink into corresponding recesses in the floor of the flat when they are collapsed, allowing the flat to also be used as a platform.
  • Some flats are equipped with forklift pockets. Numerous strong lashing points on the corner posts, the side rails and the floor allow the cargo to be optimally secured using ropes, chains, nets and so on. Each of the lashing points on the side rails is designed for a maximum load of up to 2,000 kg (4,410 lbs), and some are even suitable for 4,000 kg (8820 lbs).
  • The maximum load can only be fully utilised if the load is distributed over the whole floor.
  • If a container is only to be partially loaded with heavy cargo, then it is essential to consult with the stevedoring company!
  • Weight restrictions and regulations for road and rail transport must always be adhered to.

Platform:

Platforms are specifically designed for heavy and oversized cargo.

  • Strong floor structure and gooseneck tunnel on all 40' platforms.
  • Numerous strong lashing points on the side rails allow the cargo to be optimally secured.
  • Depending on the design, platforms can be loaded with up to 40 tonnes.
